Name: Brian Uy
Brian was born in Sydney in 1970, schooled in the Netherlands and Australia and graduated with a BE (Hons 1) and PhD from the University of New South Wales in 1992 and 1995 respectively.
He is currently Scientia Professor of Structural Engineering in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. Brian has held positions at Wargon Chapman and Partners (now Arcadis), Wholohan Grill and Partners (now Worley) and Arup in Sydney where he was involved in design of building and offshore structures.
He has held a Chair in Structural Engineering since 2004 and has worked at the Universities of Sydney, Western Sydney and Wollongong where he has also held roles as Dean, Head of School and Director.
He currently Chairs the Australian/New Zealand Standards on Steel and Composite Structures for Buildings and Bridges, BD-032 and BD-090-06 and he is a Vice President of the International Association of Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE).
