About this Event

Cleveland Clinic London is happy to announce the launch of the Medical Interpreting Training Program (MITP) for interpreters based in the UK who are aiming to develop their skills in the medical interpreting field.

The full program consists of eight sessions over two months; once a week from 9:30-16:30 . The participants have the choice of either attending individual sessions as CPDs or to register for the whole eight session course with the exam at the last session to obtain a certificate of MITP. Please note only participants who attended all seven sessions and took exam (session 8) for completing MITP will receive a certificate.

Our partners in this course are the National Register for Public Service Interpreting (NRPSI), the London Metropolitan University (LMU) and the Association of Interpreters and Translators (AIT).

Session 3: Memory and Note-Taking for Medical Interpreters; Body Systems | Part 1

Summary of the session

Note-taking skills are crucial in the fast-paced world of medical interpretation. We’ll provide strategies to enhance your memory retention and effective note-taking techniques, ensuring you can accurately convey complex medical information with precision and confidence. Our session provider, Dr Danielle D’hayer, is a well-known pioneer in the interpreting field who has vast experiences in all forms of interpreting and in the medical interpreting training as well. Danielle with her exciting methods of training will go through some main skills for retaining memory and for note-taking.

Comprehensive knowledge of the body systems is essential for effective medical interpretation. This course will delve into the anatomy and physiology of various body systems, providing you with a solid foundation to interpret medical discussions with precision and understand the terminology and concepts that form the basis of healthcare communication. This will be part 1 of two parts to cover the main body systems and related terminology. The discussion will continue on Monday, 27 May.

About the Speakers:

Memory and Note-Taking for Medical Interpreters

Danielle D’hayer

Dr Danielle D'hayer will be providing the ‘memory and note taking’ section of this session. Dr Danielle D’Hayer is an Associate Teaching Professor in Interpreting Studies, and Head of Community and Business Engagement at London Metropolitan University. She is the course leader for the MA Conference Interpreting, MA Interpreting and the interpreting short courses that include a Training the Trainers for Interpreting Studies programme and a portfolio of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities.

Dr Danielle D’Hayer has a strong interest in public service interpreting and conference interpreting. She funded the PSIT Network in the UK in 2008. She works as a consultant in curriculum development for interpreting studies and led a number of projects such as the implementation of the Ohrid Framework Agreement in Macedonia, as well as the Inspire project with the University of World Diplomacy and Economy (UWED) and the British Council in Uzbekistan.

She is internationally renowned for her approach to hybrid experiential learning pedagogy empowered by an inclusive egalitarian community of practice model, where students ‘learn within a community by caring, giving and sharing’.

Body Systems | Part 1

Bayan Abughaida

Has an MA in Conference Interpreting (LMU), MA in Interpreting & Translation (Durham University), MA in IT for Management, DPSI (English Law), and a Certificate in Bridging the Gap for Medical Interpreters & Medical Terminologies and Body Systems (USA). She is Leading a team of interpreters at Cleveland Clinic London, an Associate Lecturer at London Metropolitan University, and a Researcher and Project Consultant. Bayan has over 10 years interpreting experience in London.

Abulghasem Belghasem: Is a CCL medical interpreter. With an MD background, mainly in cardiology, therefore, has a vast experience in body systems and diagnosis. Abulghasem has an exceptional ability to simplify complex medical cases for interpreters from both his expertise in the medical field and as a current interpreter at CCL.
