About this Event
Welcome to M**der at the Wine Bar
Picture this. You arrive at L'Ami JAC on a Wednesday evening, glass of crémant in hand, and take your seat alongside up to 19 other guests. Everyone looks perfectly innocent. But by the end of the night, one of you will be revealed as a killer — and it could be anyone at the table, including you.
M**der at the Wine Bar is an interactive M**der mystery dining experience hosted every Wednesday at L'Ami JAC in Shepherds Bush. It combines the thrill of a whodunit, the fun of roleplay, and a relaxed evening of dining and drinks — all in one unforgettable night out.
What is a M**der mystery dinner?
A M**der mystery dinner is a form of interactive entertainment where every guest plays a character in an unfolding crime story. You are not a passive observer — you are a suspect, a detective, and a storyteller all at once. You will be given a character to play, secrets to keep, and digital clues to uncover. The goal is simple: figure out who committed the M**der before the killer is forced to confess.
What makes this experience unique is that the murderer is not decided in advance. The killer is revealed randomly on the night after the first round — meaning the tension is real, the performances are genuine, and no two evenings are ever the same.
Your evening from start to finish
On arrival
You'll be welcomed with a glass of crémant included in your ticket. Your Inspecteur — your host for the evening — will introduce the game, set the scene, and guide you through every stage of the night.
You'll receive your digital character guide detailing who you are, your background, your secrets, and your relationship to the other guests and to the victim. There's nothing to prepare in advance. Food and drinks from L'Ami JAC's full à la carte menu can be ordered throughout the night at your own pace.
Round 1 — Getting to know the suspects
The Inspecteur opens with a statement setting the scene. A mysterious death has occurred at a wine tasting and the suspects — that's all of you — have been gathered to account for themselves.
Each guest introduces their character to the table, reading from their digital guide or improvising. Then guests break into smaller groups to spread rumours about each other, with specific rumours provided in their character guide. At the end of Round 1, the Inspecteur draws a name at random — that player becomes the murderer for the evening and switches to the Guilty scripts in their digital guide. No one else knows who has been selected.
Round 2 — Suspicions
The Inspecteur presents new information and asks: who here had reason to want the victim dead? Guests take turns asking each other scripted questions about why they might appear suspicious. Since no one can tell whether they're hearing a Guilty or Innocent response, every answer is genuinely ambiguous. This is where the table comes alive — accusations fly, alliances form, and characters who seemed perfectly pleasant in Round 1 suddenly look very suspicious indeed.
Round 3 — Motive
The Inspecteur shares a new piece of digital evidence — a threatening note, a revealing phone screen, or a detail from the victim's past — and turns attention to the question of motive. Guests question each other using their digital guides, each answer edging the group closer to the truth. Or so they think. The murderer is working hard to deflect suspicion.
Round 4 — Method
A digital poison report is revealed. A wine cellar diagram appears. The Inspecteur presents the final piece of evidence and asks the room to consider not just who and why — but how. This is the most detailed round, and often the one that breaks the case open.
Accusations
Each guest prepares a brief accusation — naming their prime suspect and explaining their reasoning. The murderer will use this moment to point the finger elsewhere. The first guest to correctly name the murderer and state the correct motive wins the game. If nobody guesses correctly, the murderer wins.
Final statements
The Inspecteur calls on each guest one by one to deliver their Final Statement. As each innocent guest speaks, the field of suspects narrows — until only one player remains. That player delivers their Guilty confession, revealing exactly how and why they committed the crime. The reveal is always a surprise.
The characters
Every evening features up to 20 characters from a cast of wonderfully eccentric suspects:
- Brett Botox — a movie star promoting their latest action film, not quite as famous as they once were
- Chopin Sautay — a celebrity chef who is mostly here for the free wine
- Dissento Corke — a food critic and notorious wine snob who finds fault in everything
- Doctor Mixalot — a project lead with an unsettling enthusiasm for blending unusual substances
- Ferdi Furiose — a winemaker furious that scientists are muscling in on their craft
- Count/Countess Transylla — an aristocrat from a distant country with a particular fondness for red drinks
- Générale Tyrannis — a politician from a small country with very large ambitions
- Imus T. Bragg — a Texan explorer who has never let the truth get in the way of a good story
And twelve more besides. Characters can be played by any gender and any combination of guests will work.
