MB 5th: Five Years of Reading & Connecting

Maktaba Books is turning 5 years old this June, and to celebrate, we want to show how happy and grateful we are to continuously provide a platform and reading programmes to support your reading journey.

We didn't want to just invite people to come to our event to have food and listen about our 5-year journey; we wanted to do what we always do -- get people to read, benefit from reading, and have a good time doing so -- but in a more creative way.

Our team, all volunteers, came together and decided to give you a 3-hour experience that includes:

The Death of Knowledge?: Reviving Reading Culture - A panel featuring a book seller, a local literature researcher, and an educator on the changes they see in reading habits and the impact on knowledge.

The Living Library - Booths of ground-up organisations that preserve and celebrate our varied local heritage and culture in their own unique ways.

The Book Club Taster - An abridged version of our usual book club sessions to let you have a taste of what it's like to attend a book club session. Reading materials will be provided, and facilitators will guide the conversation.

All this is for free; you just need to show up with an open and positive mind. However, if you want to support our programmes monetarily, we would love that too. If you do, you can choose to pay for a ticket.

Take note that spots are limited for the panel and book club taster -- you'll surely need to register for that.
