A body-center workshop for BIPOC folks to experience their bodies. Open to ages 16+
About this Event

This movement workshop is designed to support BIPOC individuals in connecting with their bodies. Facilitated by Dazaun Soleyn, these sessions invite creative self-expression and embodied practices to safely explore generational trauma through the use of social, choreographic and abstract dance.

Each workshop begins with meditation, journaling, and improvisational dance sessions that are later used towards the creation of abstract choreography that delve into the complexities of family, history, cultural identity, and personal experiences. The workshop will close with reflections and a heartfelt discussion that rediscovers connections between participants' movements and their generational narrative.

Drawing from Dazaun's ongoing creative work, the workshop emphasizes the relationship between healing and spiritual connection within the African Diaspora. Together as a community, we collaboratively weave storytelling through movement, circling back to the question: How can art contribute to the healing of the BIPOC Body?

About Dazaun Soleyn | dazaun.dance

"may we heal?" is a poignant performance piece delving into the intricate journey of healing a body burdened by unprocessed generational trauma. Set to premiere at the Geneva Powerhouse in May of 2025, this captivating work showcases the artistry of five Bay Area artists: three movement artists and two live accompanists. Incorporating elements of dance, song, spoken word, and architecture, the project aims to embody a deeply human experience, inviting audiences to connect from an open-hearted space.
Central to the performance are five architectural objects crafted from repurposed materials. These objects are dynamically rearranged throughout the show, framing the performers' monologues and movements and altering the space's relational dynamics. Through this innovative approach, "may we heal?" promises to be a transformative experience, engaging viewers in a profound exploration of healing and resilience.
