1h 44m / R / Crime, HorrorTRAILER:
VENUE: Historic Duncan Auditorium
In 1980s Hollywood, adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx (Mia Goth) finally gets her big break. But as a mysterious killer stalks the starlets of Hollywood and a Jake-Gittes-esque private investigator (Kevin Bacon) hounds her at every turn, a trail of blood threatens to reveal her sinister past.
The third in director Ti West’s X trilogy, MaXXXine shifts its referential lens into the neon-and-shoulderpads era of the 1980s. The X films (that’s X and Pearl, if you missed them) have always been about transmuting the sunny cliché “magic of the movies” into a breeding ground for real-life nightmares. And having previously drawn on the ‘70s rise of the homemade, cheapo exploitation flick and the Technicolor golden age of Hollywood, MaXXXine draws giallo, the adult film industry, actual historical serial killers and the VHS aesthetic into its witty, terrifying web.
This screening is held in the Historic Duncan Auditorium. This space utilizes open seating for this event; seat selection is not required.
