About this Event
One year after the passing of Mario Vargas Llosa, Peruvian writer, journalist, and Nobel Prize in Literature laureate, renowned for his novels exploring politics, society, and human nature in Latin America, this conversation with Renato Cisneros offers a space to reflect on his literary legacy, his impact on contemporary culture, and the enduring relevance of his work, accompanied by a photo journey that allows us to explore his life, his work, and his influence.
Mario Vargas Llosa (1936–2025) was a Peruvian-born novelist, essayist, journalist and one of the most influential figures of the Latin American Boom. His work explores themes of power, politics, authoritarianism, and individual freedom. In 2010, he received the Nobel Prize in Literature “for his cartography of structures of power and his trenchant images of the individual's resistance, revolt, and defeat.” Vargas Llosa authored over twenty novels, numerous essays, plays, and journalistic works, leaving a lasting imprint on contemporary world literature. He died in Lima on 13 April 2025.
