Exploring his life and work through a photo journey with Renato Cisneros
About this Event

One year after the passing of Mario Vargas Llosa, Peruvian writer, journalist, and Nobel Prize in Literature laureate, renowned for his novels exploring politics, society, and human nature in Latin America, this conversation with Renato Cisneros offers a space to reflect on his literary legacy, his impact on contemporary culture, and the enduring relevance of his work, accompanied by a photo journey that allows us to explore his life, his work, and his influence.

Mario Vargas Llosa (1936–2025) was a Peruvian-born novelist, essayist, journalist and one of the most influential figures of the Latin American Boom. Widely regarded as one of the most significant writers of his generation, he gained international recognition in the 1960s with novels such as La ciudad y los perros (The Time of the Hero, 1963), La casa verde (1966), and Conversación en La Catedral (1969). His work explores themes of power, politics, authoritarianism, and individual freedom. In 2010, he received the Nobel Prize in Literature “for his cartography of structures of power and his trenchant images of the individual's resistance, revolt, and defeat.” Vargas Llosa authored over twenty novels, numerous essays, plays, and journalistic works, leaving a lasting imprint on contemporary world literature. He died in Lima on 13 April 2025.

Renato Cisneros (Lima, 12 January 1976) is a Peruvian writer, journalist, poet and media presenter. He studied Communications at the Universidad de Lima and completed a master’s degree in Written Journalism at the University of Miami. Throughout his career, he has worked for major Peruvian media outlets such as El Comercio, Diario 16, La República, Radio Capital and RPP TV.

He began his literary career as a poet before moving into narrative fiction. His notable books include Raro (2012), La distancia que nos separa (2015)—an autofictional exploration of his family history—and Dejarás la tierra (2017). La distancia que nos separa received multiple international distinctions, including the Prix Transfuge for Best Hispano-American Novel and the English PEN Award.
