About this Event
We are delighted to offer a second CPD workshop from Dr Hattie Bowden Howl, designed specifically for sign language interpreters: The Emotional Impact of Working as a Sign Language Interpreter and What to Do About It.
This workshop aims to raise awareness of the emotional challenges interpreters may face in their professional roles. It will help you recognise the susceptibility to emotional distress and provide clarity on key terms such as burnout, vicarious trauma, and compassion fatigue.
We will explore the emotional impact of these issues and reflect on how they can manifest in your work. The session will also delve into the concept of “self-care” — both personally and professionally — providing practical insights on how to incorporate effective self-care strategies into your routine.
We’ll discuss the barriers that can make self-care difficult to implement and offer realistic, achievable suggestions to support your well-being as an interpreter.
Key Takeaways:
- Understanding the emotional challenges of sign language interpreting
- Differentiating between burnout, vicarious trauma, and compassion fatigue
- Practical self-care strategies and how to make them part of your daily life
- Insights on overcoming the challenges to self-care in a professional context
Join us for an insightful and reflective session to help you navigate the emotional aspects of interpreting and build sustainable practices for well-being.
