Learn how to bring your ideas to life through the combination of visual art and storytelling. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced artist, you'll explore the fundamentals of comic structure, character development, and pacing in a fun, collaborative environment. By the end of the workshop, you'll have created your very own short comic to showcase your unique narrative voice!
Please note: We require all visitors to the Soapbox to wear masks, regardless of their vaccination status. The instructor reserves the right to ask you to leave if you do not comply.
About the instructor
Bread Tarleton is an award-winning cartoonist and zine-maker based in Philadelphia. They are a graduate of The Center for Cartoon Studies, where they taught classes in Zine-making and Comics Publication, and received an MFA in Cartooning. They are currently a fellow at The Soapbox Community Print Shop and the book editor at A.B.O. Comix, a publisher that puts out the work of Incarcerated LGBTQ+ people. Their next book Soften the Blow is coming out with Fieldmouse Press in 2024.
Cost
$40 for Current Soapbox Members/$45 for Non-Members
Plus a $15 materials fee that covers paper, thread, and use of all tools and equipment.
