How can multilateral processes and their negotiators remain grounded in economic, social, and political realities?
About this Event

The Centre for Multilateral Negotiations (CEMUNE) invites you to our public event during the London Climate Action Week on "Making Multilateralism Deliver: Connecting Process to Practice". For any questions, please contact [email protected].

Multilateral processes are often criticised for being too slow, too technical, and too disconnected from the realities they are intended to address. As global challenges become more complex and interconnected—from trade and supply chains to climate, development, and technological transformation—the gap between negotiation rooms and real-world outcomes is becoming increasingly visible.

This session explores how multilateral processes and their negotiators can remain grounded in economic, social, and political realities. It will examine how negotiators can better integrate insights from business, local implementation, and affected communities, while navigating geopolitical constraints and competing national interests.

As part of the Rewiring Multilateralism series, the discussion will focus on strengthening feedback loops between global negotiations and on-the-ground outcomes, improving the usability and relevance of agreements, and ensuring that multilateralism delivers tangible results. The session will also explore the role of data, technology, and multi-stakeholder engagement in bridging this gap, and how more adaptive, responsive processes can enhance both legitimacy and effectiveness.
