The new album from M Stevens & The Ghasts, which is called `Sycamore Helicopters', will be released on Popical Island and launched on Saturday 12th October with a gig at the Bello Bar in Dublin. Sycamore Helicopters, like its predecessor Birds, is full of the mordant wit, tongue in cheek turn of phrase and very surreal take on Irish life that songwriter Mike Stevens is known for, but adds a strong narrative thread. It's an album of stories about the temporary nature of our delicate realities. Expertly crafted with the help of producer Les Keye, and mastered beautifully by Joe Chester, Sycamore Helicopters widens the sonic palette of the Ghasts (Mark Jordan, Hugh McCabe, Ciaran Canavan and Donagh O’Brien) by mean of robust, tender and often adventurous arrangements. This was helped enormously by the additional instrumentation provided by Norah Stevens (violin) and Mary Barnecutt (cello), as well as Anna Stevens (flute, backing vocals), Sadhbh McCabe (harp) and Les Keye (percussion, backing vocals).Joining M Stevens and The Ghasts on the night of October 12th will be their erstwhile co-conspirator and Popical Island luminary Padraig Cooney with his new project (Padraig Cooney & Bedtime Now) and also the Dublin debut of the experimental electronic songs and sounds of Cork-based musician Twitcher (Lisa O'Grady).
