Monday 13 May 2024 at 6pm – Italian Institute of Culture, Pavilion Hall
“I predatori” (2020) (109’) is the first movie by young Director Pietro Castellitto
Presented at the 77th Venice International Film Festival in the series Orizzonti. It won several accolades and prizes amongst which Nastro d’Argento and David di Donatello.
Synopsis: The film tells the story of two families, Pavone and Vismara, very different from each other both in social status and in life: intellectual, rich, bourgeois the former; proletarian, fascist, and uneducated the latter. Despite their extreme differences, something binds them together, and it’s not just the chaotic Rome they live in. A simple accident and a perceived slight will lead the realities of the Pavone and Vismara families to collide. The driving force behind this collision is a 25-year-old, who will show how the members of the two families each guard their own secret jealously, revealing how often appearances deceive, because ultimately there are no victims, only predators.
Set in Rome, I predatori describes with corrosive irony the stereotypes in our contemporary society, despite leaning towards a genre of bittersweet comedy which is one of the most appreciated styles of Italian cinema.
The movie will be shown in Italian with English subtitles and a brief introduction of its context will precede the screening.
Free admission, booking required.
