About this Event
Event Photos

This event features artist Jasmine Lynea -- A visionary film director, writer, and editor whose work explores the fluid spaces between truth and myth. A Temple University alum, Jasmine crafts vibrant, boundary-pushing stories that imagine a Black and queer liberating future. As a 2022 BlackStar Filmmaker Lab fellow, Jasmine wrote and directed the fantasy sci-fi short The Love Machine, which premiered at BlackStar Film Festival and has since captivated audiences at festivals worldwide. In 2023, Jasmine’s work earned them fellowships and grants from Mural Arts, Velocity Fund, and Flaherty’s Queer-World Mending program. Supported by Independence Public Media Foundation and Scribe Video, Jasmine is now directing a new folkloric short, Della Can Fly! —a powerful tale blending myth and modernity.

Q&A Moderated by Tafari Diop, a Philadelphia-based multidisciplinary artist, cultural producer, and speculative historian with expertise in event programming, graphic design, and multimedia. His work investigates the dynamics of Black cultural production and sovereignty through a Pan-Africanist lens. Often Robertson’s work is found through site specific media installations and community engagements. Utilizing anti-work methodologies, he meanders through a process including but not limited to kite-flying, illustration, relationship building, radical organizing, writing, and administrative critique.

Most recently, Robertson developed the Black Historians’ Department to explore a speculative historiography that prioritizes the ways that Black peoples hold, exchange, and create information amongst ourselves, often outside the spectre of institutional control.
