About this Event
Relatefulness is an art of bringing mindfulness into our relationships. It is also a practice of love.
My grandmother passed away earlier this year, at the age of 101. Her last words to me were, ‘there’s so much love’, and then, ‘what a gift’. I received her words as an eternal invitation, and as an invitation to eternity. They accompany me now as guidance for the rest of my work and life.
Can we fall in love with each moment, in all of its detail and texture? Can we love our own desires and longings? Can we love in ourselves all that which seems to be the opposite of love? Can we relate with each other from a place of love, whilst also respecting our boundaries and preferences?
Love is both an everpresent friend, waiting to be noticed, and a fierce teacher, calling us into ever new forms of speech and action. It dwells in the spine as much as it does in the heart.
We live in extraordinary times of accelerating technological change, growing political upheaval and longstanding inequalities of power and privilege. May we drink deeply from the well of love, that we might have the courage to face these times with steady footing and an open heart.
The event will take place in London on Sunday 24 May
- The day will begin at 1100 and finish at 1700, with a lunch break around 1330.
- The group size is capped at 10.
- The event will take place in The Top Room at The Bonnington Centre (SW8 1TD, near Vauxhall Tube Station)
- The investment for the day is £65.
Activities during the day are likely to include:
- Space to breathe, slow down, unfold, and come into deeper contact with what we are experiencing.
- Opportunities to get to get to know each other, and in particular to know each other in how we relate to love.
- Guided reflections and activities exploring different facets of love: love as presence, love as agency, love as relationship, and love as freedom.
- Open group practice time (Focus and Flow sessions), in which we explore what arises in us and between us, from moment to moment.
The title of this workshop is inspired by the Richard Wilbur poem, .
Both those new to Relatefulness (and to Circling / Transformational Connection) and those with more experience are very welcome. You can read more about Relatefulness here.
Please note that although I experience a wide variety of benefits associated with practicing Relatefulness, it is not group therapy, and I am not a psychotherapist. At times, the practice can evoke strong emotions as we explore what it is like to be in contact with a range of other people. If you are currently navigating significant mental health challenges and are unsure if this event will be a good fit for you, please reach out.
About the facilitator-
I am a certified Relatefulness facilitator and coach, and I have been sharing relational practices since 2013. Working for The Relateful Company, I lead sessions online and in person, and have run closed groups integrating the writing and appreciation of poetry. I wrote my PhD dissertation on the moral significance of empathy at the University of Oxford. You can read more about me here.
(please note that this workshop is run independently, and not through The Relateful Company)
