Kitchen Leg records started in 2013 in Berlin maily as a tape label, loosely inspired by DIY, fanzines, riot grrrl, punk, dada and Minuteman econo philosophy, with the intent to produce cool, straighforward music with collage artwork. While the music that has been released spans different music styles, the artwork has always been hand-made analogue collage, by the label co-owner Andrew Kemp. Andrew started to make collages in his early 20s to be used as covers for mixtapes he did for friends and roommates. Collages for him had a fascinating aspect in that they can connect different concepts and worlds in an intuitive manner...the result should first surprise its creator! The aesthetic of the label, due to Andrew's use of clips from old magazines, weathered saturated images and encyclopedia illustrations has been instrumental, over 12 years, in creating a recognizable imaginary, that acts as complement to the the music and in the time of AI takeover, is also a hymn to human imperfection. "Lost and Found" is the first exhibition of a selection of Andrew's work for Kitchen Leg records. live show: Instant Voodoo is-jokingly speaking-the resident band of the Kitchen Leg mansion. It’s a duo started in the living room of the two owners of the label, Federica and Andrew, experimenting with sounds and rhythms using a whole array of analogue machinery. Together they create an evocative, pulsating music that in its trajectory crosses day and night. Or, as they like to define in two words, extra dust and magic. Their tape was released on their label in 2019 on tape by the French imprint Atomic Bongos on CD.
