About this Event
Join us for an afternoon of environmental action, nature, city skyline and connecting with other eco-conscious tourists. This is a guided afternoon on Hampstead Heath that combines one of London's most iconic walks with an environmental action, plus a wild swim to really immerse yourself in the nature of the Heath.
We'll climb Parliament Hill for a protected panoramic view of the London skyline, clean up two stretches of the Heath's paths and pond edges, and take a dip in Hampstead's legendary natural bathing pond before finishing at the Brew House Café in the grounds of Kenwood House.
This is a trial event from Earth Stewards Travel Club, a new grassroots community for eco-conscious travellers. We're keeping it free or at cost (the price of the swimming ticket), and asking everyone who comes to tell us honestly what they thought. If you're the kind of person who wants to explore great places and leave them better than you found them, this is for you.
Litter pickers, gloves and bags are provided. Swimmer and non-swimmer tickets available.
Agenda
🕑: 02:30 PM - 02:45 PM
Meet at Hampstead Heath station
Info: Join fellow eco-conscious travellers for an afternoon that combines one of London's great walks with real climate action. We'll explore 790 acres of wild green space, clean up two stretches of the Heath, and take a dip in a legendary natural pond.
🕑: 02:45 PM - 03:15 PM
Walk to Parliament Hill summit & take in the view
Info: One of only six legally protected views in London: St Paul's, The Shard, the Gherkin, Canary Wharf and the Palace of Westminster all visible from 98 metres above the city. We'll pause here to take it in, hear the story of the Heath, and set the scene for the afternoon ahead. Bring a camera.
🕑: 03:15 PM - 03:45 PM
Cleanup Stop 1: Southern Heath paths & pond edges
Info: The Heath welcomes millions of visitors every year. The paths around the ponds collect litter that gets left behind. We'll spend 20 minutes making a visible difference - litter pickers, gloves and bags all provided. No experience needed, just willingness.
🕑: 03:45 PM - 04:45 PM
Wild Swim, Hampstead Mixed Bathing Pond
Info: The highlight of the afternoon. An unheated natural pond surrounded by mature trees, open to all genders throughout summer, lifeguarded, and utterly unlike anywhere else in London. Water temperatures range from 15–20°C in summer. Confident swimmers only - the water is deep and dark. Non-swimmers are very welcome on the bank.
🕑: 04:45 PM - 05:15 PM
Cleanup Stop 2: Woodland paths to Kenwood
Info: The quieter, more wooded stretch of the route. As the Heath opens out toward the Kenwood estate, we'll work the treeline paths where litter collects away from the main footfall. A peaceful contrast to the busy southern Heath, and a chance to spot woodland birds before the final leg.
🕑: 05:15 PM - 06:00 PM
The Brew House Café, Kenwood House:
Info: We'll end at the converted stable yard café of Kenwood House, an 18th-century English Heritage estate set in landscaped grounds on the northern edge of the Heath. Free entry to the gardens and grounds. Count the bags, swap stories, and refuel before heading home via Gospel Oak or Hampstead Heath Overground.
