About this Event
🌟 all RSVPs will be shared a link to the film and are expected to WATCH THE FILM PRIOR TO MASTERCLASS! 🌟
Join Loira Limbal, 2026 FUSION Film Festival Industry Visionary Award honoree, for a Masterclass centered around her acclaimed documentary Through the Night. The Masterclass will include insights from the film’s creation and distribution, including ethical engagement with documentary protagonists, tips for verité-style filmmaking, and how to mount an impact campaign that moves the needle on public policy and centers the communities most affected by the film’s subject.
Through the Night (2020) is a cinema verité portrait of three working New York mothers whose lives intersect at a 24-hour daycare center: a mother working the overnight shift as an essential worker at a hospital; another holding down three jobs to support her family; and a woman who, for over two decades, has cared for the children of parents with nowhere else to turn.
Through the Night had its World Premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, was selected as a New York Times Critic’s Pick, won the prestigious Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Award for excellence in broadcast and documentary journalism, and made its broadcast premiere on PBS’s POV series. Its multi-year impact campaign galvanized support for essential workers, including and especially child care providers, raised significant funds for the child care center featured in the film, and continues to be screened to state-level law and policy makers to inspire change in how care workers are recognized, compensated, and protected.
