A Masterclass by Federika S. open to anyone interested in building careers in live event production.
About this Event

Shubbak is hosting a special masterclass by Federika S for our community, young producers, and friends - open to anyone interested in building careers in live event production. While many courses focus on the technical aspects of event production such as budgets, bookings, fundraising or sponsorships, lineups etc. there is another side about working in the events industry that isn’t spoken about enough: the human side.

This masterclass delves into more than just the technicalities of production, encouraging reflection and self awareness to build resilient managers and producers. We will learn best practices around managing expectations, tone, egos and boundaries to ensure we create safe and affirmative spaces for collaboration with artists, creatives, and audiences.

Working in events can be one of the most exciting and fulfilling careers yet it comes with increasing challenges to wellbeing and managing these interpersonal aspects are crucial to ensuring that working in event production can remain an enjoyable, sustainable and long-term option career development opportunity.

The session will explore some key lessons such as:

1) Beyond Disappointment: how to carry on with your job when you’ve unavoidably disappointed someone

2) Staying two steps ahead: Avoid chaos and master this key to success,

3) Taking things personally (or not): Building discernment around taking personal affront - does it serve you to take it as such?

4) Managing reactions: Listening without reacting will diffuse and solve a situation most of the time.

5) Keeping (in)charge: Always have a plan (B), a charged phone & a snack in your pocket.

Sprinkled with numerous anecdotes of when things didn't go according to plan, Federika takes us through her personal lessons learned (the hard way) while on tour, planning concerts or working backstage. Join us for this real and ready to apply session on navigating the world of event production.

About the facilitator: Federika S With over a decade of experience working on live concerts and events, Federika’s career in the events industry has been incredibly rich and varied, covering roles ranging from production, touring, concerts, theatre, logistics and festivals. As a seasoned professional, she now balances her events work with workshops and masterclasses for new and developing event producers. She also consults and supports independent artists to develop their shows, networks, bookings, branding and funding applications.

In the early years, she was working at an independent music venue programming a wide array of UK-based acts ranging from rap, electronic, classical and Latin styles, and taking on opportunities that came with her growing network: stage managing a touring theatre show, helping international bands navigate their first UK festivals, sorting out tech for local London shows, working doors at club nights - and anything else that came her way. Until 2023, Federika worked as Production Manager for Marsm during which she was producing and overseeing over 40 events a year including multi-city European tours with the likes of Cairokee, Massar Egbari and Faraj Suleiman, and running shows for popular artists such as Yasmin Hamdan, Hamza Namira, BLTNM, Souad Massi and dozens of others. This role also saw her work with Shubbak for several editions, overseeing a significant amount of their live concerts and contributing to their creative programming. Over the past couple years, she has moved into music education bringing artists into schools around the country, taking on freelance projects and working as a duty manager at an events space in London across a range of events: weddings, product launches, trainings, corporate events and more.
