This March. Double Trouble returns to the world of buddy cop movies with a night of "shoot first, ask questions later" mayhem. Loaded with A-List talent and B-Movie sensibilities. Along with reactionary politics, east coast/west coast sleaze and several stuntmen clearly on a suicide mission for our entertainment.*THE ROOKE (1990)
Veteran cop Nick Pulovski (Clint Eastwood) isn't so happy when he gets paired with young rookie David Ackerman (Charlie Sheen). They don't get along, in fact they hate each other right off the bat. But they'll have to get along if they want to take down the car-theft ring whose leaders (Raul Julia, Sônia Braga) are responsible for the death of the Eastwood's last partner. Eastwood's final hyper maximalist action flick before his more somber, self-reflective late career that started 2 years after with 'Unforgiven.' Along with being his last, it's easily his most insane too! With outrageous action scenes that features a double plane crash, a freeway chase that's like 'The Blues Brothers' meets 'Final Destination 2' and an entire five story building exploding. An exercise in total excess that delivers thrills, laughs and questionable morals.
*SHAKEDOWN (1988)
Written and Directed by 80s exploitation legend James Glickenhaus. Peter Weller is an overworked public defender, dealing with the ruthless legal system and an equally ruthless fiancé. But when he stumbles upon a massive police corruption scandal by accident he turns to loose canon cop Sam Elliott. They team up to uncover the truth and try to stay alive while doing it. Part legal thriller, part domestic drama, part balls-out action movie. Glickenhaus packs a lot into 97 minutes. But he knows that an audience will forgive a lot if they are entertained. Loaded with the NYC grit and grime that Glickenhaus is best known for along with his brand of insane stunt work that makes you fear for the safety of the crew and cast. This is a forgotten 80s gem that needs to be more well known.
