The Evil Dead 2 to Phantasm 1's Evil Dead. Writer/Director Don Coscarelli returns to the film that made his name in genre film canon. Only this time he replaces the original's grungy, surreal atmosphere with an action horror meets road trip thrill ride. Full of all kinds of horrific set pieces including shocking amounts of gore for a studio film, four barrel shotguns, a chainsaw duel, massive explosions and horror icon Angus Scrimm. It's a movie that on paper, shouldn't work at all. That it does is a testament to Coscarelli talent and vision.
*House II: The Second Story (1987)
The film watching equivalent of having a psychotic break. The sequel to Steve Miner and Sean S. Cunningham's 1985 surprise hit. This sequel from the original's co-writer Ethan Wiley is one of the most confounding, batshit and insane films Double Trouble has probably ever shown. A film that includes everything from centuries old mummies fighting for a crystal skull, worm dogs, zombie horses, John Ratzenberger as a interdimensional adventurer, Aztec cannibals and dinosaurs for some reason. Something that should be seen to be believed!
