🧠Lecture: "The Violin, Uncorked"
🎤 Speaker: Jeremy Caplan
Intimate. Exhilarating. Intoxicating. The violin contains multitudes. For most of us, violin music has been hiding in plain sight — in dentist's offices, elevators, and school assemblies. But forming an impression of the violin that way is like judging a great wine by a free sample at the grocery store.
Journalist and lifelong violinist Jeremy Caplan will take you on a clip-filled journey through the instrument's wildest and most beautiful corners: from the monumental architecture of Bach's Chaconne, to the lush drama of Bruch's Scottish Fantasy, to a notorious showpiece that pushes the instrument to its limits. Along the way, you’ll pick up three simple but powerful ways to listen that will open up classical music in ways you never expected.
Jeremy Caplan is Director of Teaching and Learning at CUNY’s Newmark Graduate School of Journalism and a former Time Magazine tech and culture reporter. A seasoned performer from Boston to Carnegie Hall and Tanglewood, he now channels his passion for discovery into Wonder Tools, a newsletter helping 85,000 subscribers find the best digital tools for creative productivity.
