🧠Lecture: "Sustainable Consumption is an Oxymoron"
🎤 Speaker: Dr. Mara Einstein
Join us for a thought-provoking evening with Dr. Mara Einstein as she unpacks one of the biggest buzzwords in marketing today: sustainability. Products are not sold through attributes alone—they’re sold by forging powerful emotional bonds with consumers. Increasingly, brands hitch their stories to social causes, and sustainability has become one of the most popular—and most abused—of these narratives.
Are the products you use truly green, or just greenwashing in disguise? Dr. Einstein, an internationally recognized expert on deceptive marketing tactics and the intersection of marketing and religion, will help you cut through the noise and see how marketers shape our desires, beliefs, and buying habits.
She has presented at SXSW, the THIS conference on the Future of Media and Content in Denmark, and Brain Bar in Budapest. The author of eight books, including “Hoodwinked: How marketers use the same tactics as cults” and “Compassion, Inc.,” she is a professor of media studies at CUNY and a former marketing executive at major media companies. She is also featured in the Emmy-nominated Netflix documentary “Buy Now: The Shopping Conspiracy.”
