Oh, you didn’t know?! By the time the three-count hits, you’ll see just how deeply professional wrestling has shaped culture, performance, and spectacle in America and around the world. From French strongman carnivals and early 1900s stadium shows drawing tens of thousands, to iconic catchphrases, t-shirts, and gestures that defined whole eras, this lecture dives into wrestling as a powerful multimodal performance art.
Prof. Mike Rodgers will explore how pro wrestling blends theater, sport, music, and myth-making to create some of the biggest crowds, loudest reactions, and most unforgettable characters in entertainment history.
Mike Rodgers is a multi-instrumentalist, music director, composer, arranger, educator, MC, and pro-wrestling personality. Known as “Bass Frehley,” he has performed with independent wrestling promotions and with All Elite Wrestling (AEW) on their flagship show “Dynamite,” at UBS Arena, and at Wembley Stadium, and recorded the AEW: Stringside: An Acoustic EP. He has written themes for Remarkable Wrestling, Imperial World Wrestling, TNA, and Combat Zone Wrestling.
