About this Event
This month we will be covering Chapter 5: Holistic Justice with our guest speaker AbdiRahman Hasan, Founder of Coffee Afrik.
AbdiRahim Hasan is the Founder and Managing Director of Coffee Afrik CIC, a single cafe, community garden and food cooperative in east London which has turned into 30+ social project enterprise spanning seven buildings across north east London, including two women’s hubs, a problematic drug use space, a research lab, a systemic litigation space, and around ten mental health projects.
Abdi Rahman is a survivor of adverse childhood experiences, homelessness, and problematic drug use and has channelled his own journey into empowering others, creating spaces focused on healing, belonging, and liberation. As a Somali Muslim, he takes deep pride in connecting his culture and heritage to the work he does, honouring community, ancestors, and indigenous models of healing.
With over 20 years of experience organising communities and campaigning on housing injustice, AbdiRahim believes in systemic change and continues to fight for justice through contributions to UK Parliament’s Health and Social Care Committee and co-authored groundbreaking research with the Centre for Mental Health, commissioned by the NHS Race and Health Observatory, on trauma informed care in racialised communities.
Each month we will go through a chapter in the book, hearing reflections from our guest speaker on real life lessons from their career in the context of prophetic leadership. There will also be room for a facilitated discussion and questions from the attendees. This is a great opportunity to learn first-hand from Muslim leaders at the forefront of their field.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION - It is advisable to read the relevant chapter before the book club, but if you are unable to do so please purchase a copy of the book ready to read and reflect on soon after.

About the Book
This profound statement by Prophet Muhammad(s) compels us to recognise that we are all leaders at some level. But what makes someone a good leader? And how does each and everyone of us measure up against the leadership standards set by the Prophet?
This book presents a well-researched leadership framework combined with extensively applied contemporary practitioner case studies for the first time to readers interested in a Sirah (prophetic life) based universal model for good leadership. Drawing upon scholarly findings from eastern and western sources, and having examined an extensive range of works on Sirah, an original framework of eleven prophetic leadership qualities are presented with an entire chapter devoted to each.
Well known and lesser known events from the Sirah are explored and analysed like never before, and viewed with a specialist leadership lens, extracting insights on effective people management, authentic leadership and succeeding against the odds.
Each chapter on leadership qualities offers not only what the quality means and where it can be found in the life of the Prophet, but how one can develop those qualities within themselves as well.
