About this Event
Tapestries looking drab? Want to zhuzh up your wardrobe for jousting season? Come learn the fundamentals of lattice embroidery in this introductory class! Lattice embroidery - also called battlement couching - was an extremely popular form of textile art in medieval Europe used for both ornament and repair. Grids of thread lay on top of the fabric, later filled with smaller stitches. As with sashiko, the principles are simple, but the variations endless.
In this two hour, beginner friendly class students will learn the basic principles of lattice work and create eye-catching examples to take home. Did you already take our introduction to embroidery and want to learn more stitches? Come back to learn about latticework! Did you miss out on sashiko? Come learn a different solution to the same problem from elsewhere in the world!
All materials are provided. This class is suitable for ages 12 and up (ages 12-14 must be accompanied by a paying adult.)
Instructor Cirrus Wood is a self-taught artisan who enjoys coming up with and learning new techniques to make clothing more visually appealing and more durable. He runs the mending and tailoring business Dollars & Yen which came about after years of casually combining elements of both Japanese and American design in his own wardrobe.
