About this Event
Latex, just like any other material, can get damaged. The best way to insure the long life of your garments is to learn how to repair them. Repairing your garment is a great introduction to working with latex and will help you to figure out if you enjoy the process before investing in tools and materials or embarking on making full latex garments. Finding ways to give new life to your clothes creates space for appreciation of the work that's gone into them.
Doing repairs is actually an opportunity to find new potential in your garment. My approach to repairs is simple: if you can make the repair invisible, fantastic! Your garment has the potential to look just like new, as if it was never damaged at all. And if you can’t make the repair completely invisible, incorporate it into a stand-out feature. Your garment can look even better, after it's been repaired, than it did before it was damaged. Flaws can be turned into features.
The Latex Garment Repairs Workshop
For this workshop you’ll bring along your own latex garments, with any kind of damage, and learn how to fix them. We’ll specifically cover 4 of the most common types of damage: opened seams, tears, holes, and replacing hardware. At the end of the workshop you’ll have repaired at least one of your garments and leave with the knowledge of how to repair the rest.
What you will walk away with:
- Learn how to repair your latex garments.
- Understand about vegan latex and how to take care & love your items for longer.
- Understanding of the tools and materials involved in working with latex.
- Meet like-minded people who share interests with you in a beautiful space, a minutes walk away from Greenwich park.
This workshop is accessible for complete beginners. No previous garment making experience is necessary.
Don't own any latex yet? Not to worry! You can still attend, learn the repairs skills, and assemble a thong while others repair their garments.
Spaces are limited to 5 participants.
Tools and materials will be provided for your use during the workshop so no other investment is needed prior to attending.
Tea and coffee with a non-dairy milk will be provided.
