Hungry Monkey’s mouthwatering banana breads will be on Jewel shelves beginning late October. Hungry Monkey Baking was founded by accident by Cindy Kienzle in 2010 due in part to Cindy’s innate baking talent and an unfortunate layoff. Known for her delicious confections it wasn’t until she lost her job which had been heading up the Chicago Transit Authority’s Marketing and Customer Communication Department for more than a decade that a friend suggested she sell her decadent chocolate chip banana bread at a charity event benefitting children with learning disabilities a cause dear to Kienzle’s heart since her daughter Lily had been diagnosed with a learning disability. Her bakery business began booming overnight as people needed their Hungry Monkey fix.
Hungry Monkey Baking Company focuses on a small product line of natural handmade small-batch sweets. Their current line-up includes their Signature Chocolate Chip Banana Bread (#1 seller) an Original Banana Bread (plain pure banana goodness) a Cinnamon Apple Streusel Cake a Lemon Tea Cake with Lemon-Buttermilk Icing a seasonal Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Bread – and their wildly popular Triple Chocolate Brownies Howie Mandel’s favorite! As she looks to the future it is her dream to leave a legacy for her daughter by taking Hungry Monkey national.
Cindy was born in Evanston Illinois was raised in West Roger’s Park and Niles Illinois and now resides in Lake Forest IL with her husband Tom and her daughter Lily. Lily continues to inspire Cindy as she never gives up. Lily has defied the early odds and is an A student a true wiz in Math and Science and is an honors choir student where she shines singing classical pieces. Lily has been in more than a dozen plays and musicals.

About Cindy Kienzle and Hungry Monkey
It took Cindy 25 years to start her baking company Hungry Monkey Baking Company based out of the North Shore neighborhood of Lake Forest. Almost everything great in Cindy’s life came late – she got married at 47 had her daughter Lily (Hungry Monkey’s namesake) at 48 and started Hungry Monkey just days before her 51st birthday. Cindy always wanted to open a bakery but she had a career. Fate intervened when she lost her job heading up the Chicago Transit Authority’s Marketing and Customer Communication Department for more than a decade and needed to find a new position with more flexible hours to spend more time with her new baby girl Lily who was diagnosed early on with special needs as she did not walk until 18 months or talk in sentences until she was four years old. When a Lake Forest Mom asked her to bake her signature chocolate chip banana bread for a local charity for kids with special needs she sold out two days in a row. Hungry Monkey Baking Company was born a month later where Cindy sold out weekly in a local farmer’s market. Other Lake Forest Moms helped out too one offering up her commercial kitchen; another introducing her to a platform where Howie Mandel discovered her and her daughter doing a live baking show which was a game-changer.
