Ladderback Jacquard with Aleks Byrd

If you're a fan of stranded colourwork, the ladderback jacquard technique is a game changer!
Create beautiful stranded colourwork, not just from the right side but also the wrong side with this game changing float management skill. Ladderback jacquard will help you manage floats by keeping them short to avoid any snagging, while also opening up the possibility of knitting patterns which require longer gaps between colours.
In the workshop we will explore two ways of using ladderback jacquard; the first by adding a ladderback stitch while knitting stranded colourwork and the second by creating the ladderback stitch after you've finished knitting colourwork.

SKILL LEVEL
This class is great for an intermediate knitter. This class is for you if you're comfortable knitting with two colours, doing simple stranded colourwork, or Fair Isle knitting in the round.

WHAT TO BRING
Please bring along the below items to this class:
- US 6 / 4mm needles for knitting small circumference (DPNs or circular needles for magic loop)
- Stitch markers
- Tapestry / darning needle
- Scissors
- 8ply (DK weight) yarn (preferably nothing slippery. Think of yarn you'd use for colourwork). Please bring 8ply yarn in 2 contrasting colours. Please bring 20g of each colour.

ABOUT ALEKS BYRD
Aleks Byrd is a knitwear designer with roots in Estonia, Canada, and the USA. Aleks’ passion is creating modern patterns with a connection to the past using little-known traditional techniques for unique wearable designs that are fun and rewarding to knit for all levels of knitters. Her portfolio of designs includes individual patterns as well as those published in The Knitter magazine and Laine Magazine. Her latest book Traditions Revisited – Modern Estonian Knits brings together her designs and teaching as an introduction to Estonian knitting, both traditional and traditional-inspired.
Aleks teaches workshops to demystify the deceptively easy techniques used in her patterns all over the world in the UK, Europe, Canada, the United States and Australia. Most notably with sold out workshops at Vogue Knitting Live in New York.
Aleks especially loves sharing traditional knitting techniques from Estonia with knitters around the world to expand their view on what knitting can be. She works with yarn shops and knitting event organizers to bring engaging workshops to your knitting community.
