Al calor de la selva peruana, un grupo de jóvenes se reúne en la casa de los Rodríguez Grández para un hecho que cambiará la historia de la música latinoamericana: el nacimiento de Los Mirlos y de la cumbia amazónica.
A partir de un amplio material de archivo audiovisual –que va desde los primeros shows en fiestas locales de los 60 hasta las recientes y exitosas giras por Europa–, LA DANZA DE LOS MIRLOS relata la trayectoria de una de las bandas pioneras del género pero, además, traza una genealogía de la música tropical y popular de todo un continente.
Sin obviar las excéntricas aventuras, las disputas entre integrantes, y la idolatría de todo un pueblo, el documental de Álvaro Luque se torna tan inagotable como la melodía del himno internacional de la cumbia que le da nombre.

In the heat of the Peruvian jungle, a group of young people gathers at the Rodríguez family house for an event that will change the history of Latin American music: the birth of Los Mirlos and Amazonian cumbia.
Based on extensive audiovisual archive material ranging from the first shows at local parties in the '60s to the recent and successful tours in Europe, LA DANZA DE LOS MIRLOS recounts the trajectory of one of the pioneering bands of the genre tracing the genealogy of tropical and popular music from an entire continent.
Without ignoring the usual disputes between members, the eccentric adventures, and the idolatry of an entire town, Álvaro Luque's documentary becomes as inexhaustible as the melody of the international cumbia anthem that gives it its name.
