About this Event
Eight years in the making, L.A. A QUEER HISTORY chronicles the largely unknown LGBTQ+ history of Los Angeles.
New York’s 1969 Stonewall uprising has been widely regarded as the beginning of the LGBTQ+ movement, but its true heart was born in Los Angeles.
Through rare archival footage, photos, and dozens of interviews, L.A. A Queer History recounts the riveting story of the struggle for gay liberation and the historical figures involved. From the founding of the first longstanding Gay Civil Rights organization, the Mattachine Society by Harry Hay in 1950, to the male and female impersonators that graced the stage at the Orpheum Theater, to the first Gay Pride Parade down Hollywood Boulevard in 1970, Los Angeles has been at the forefront of LGBTQ+ culture and political action.
Director, Gregorio Davila is a former Seattle resident. "Seattle is where I found my Queer family and my love of film, so it's very special for me to be screening my first feature documentary here".
