Kula Shaker return with their 8th studio album, Wormslayer, reaffirming their place as one of Britain's most fearless and imaginative rock bands
Named after a 9th- century Indian poet king, the band have always existed in an alternate reality, mixing mysticism, psychedelia, and raucous rock 'n' roll energy. With Wormslayer, they continue that quest, creating a kaleidoscopic journey that feels both timeless and urgently fresh.
From its opening moments, the album surges with evangelical fervor: a whirlpool of '60s psychedelia, sumptuous soul, retro-funk and cosmic storytelling. At its core runs a thematic thread that unfolds like a psychedelic rock opera - tales of Faustian bargains, winged dreamers, and mythic struggles that mirror the band's own uncompromising creative spirit.
Over the decades, Kula Shaker have carved a unique path through British music. Bursting onto the scene in the Britpop era with hits like Hey Dude, Tattva, Govinda and their high-energy take on Hush, they became one of the fastest-selling UK debuts of all time with their chart-topping album K. They've headlined Glastonbury (twice in one weekend), opened for Oasis at Knebworth, and remain, remarkably, the same original lineup, still at the peak of their powers.
