About this Event

In this class, you’ll explore the expressive and tactile world of soft pastels, creating a winter garden scene inspired by the vibrant colour and intimacy of Pierre Bonnard’s paintings.

You’ll begin by learning the fundamentals of working with pastels - from layering and blending colours to achieving depth, contrast, and texture. We’ll look closely at how Bonnard captured light and atmosphere, using these techniques to bring your snowy garden composition to life.

Soft pastels are wonderfully forgiving and full of possibility - perfect for both beginners and experienced artists. The process is intuitive, relaxing, and highly satisfying, as you build layers of colour and watch your image gradually emerge on paper.

By the end of the class, you’ll take home a finished pastel painting bursting with warmth and character - a celebration of winter light through Bonnard’s painterly lens!

All materials will be provided. Please bring your own apron or wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little dusty!
You’re welcome to BYOB and enjoy your hot or cold drink while you paint.

In addition, participants receive a £5.00 discount voucher for a £30 spend at Cass Art!
