After several SOLD OUT workshops around NZ this is the second one here in the peaceful Sanders Reserve over looking the water in Coatesville. This is a special one - as a portion of each ticket sold is being donated to the AJHS boys hockey team to help them get to AIMS games this year. And light refreshments will also be provided.
So come and learn the magical art of Kintsugi with Artist Ema Frost in this new Workshop. You can bring along a piece of your own pottery to restore in this beautiful style. (I'll also have a few as back up if you don't have your own piece) (All Levels)
Saturday 16th August - 3-5pm

Ema Frost is a very clever Kiwi Artist, who has been teaching Kintsugi for 5+ years and regularly travels to Japan to study and learn new techniques. Ema's illustrations and ceramic works sit in many of our countries best galleries, and whose products and merchandise sell in the most stylish design stores and gallery shops. Her style is enchanting - quirky, feminine and colourful, and clearly influenced by her travels throughout the world, usually off the beaten track.
Have you ever wanted to try Kintsugi.... It's an ancient Japanese art form where you fix broken pottery with gold - making its imperfections its beauty. - A truly wonderful philosophy to live by. Nothing is ever really broken but new life and meaning is brought back making your piece a work of art and truly something special. You can also apply this technique on various materials like glass, wood, greenstone and shells.
Kintsugi
It's called kintsugi (金継ぎ), or kintsukuroi (金繕い), literally golden (“kin”) and repair (“tsugi”). This traditional Japanese art uses a precious metal – liquid gold, liquid silver or lacquer dusted with powdered gold – to bring together the pieces of a broken pottery item and at the same time enhance the breaks.
You will take away your wonderful finished work, plus your new skills which will enable you to further your own Kintsugi in your own time.
This class is not just for budding or accomplished artists. It is for everyone to enjoy a relaxing day of art and design with Ema.

What you will take away:
A finished artwork piece
A understanding of Kintsugi
Knowledge and History of this beautiful art form.
Where: Sanders Reserve, 180-186 Sanders Road, Paremoremo, Auckland 0793. (First house on the right as you drive in)
