Ever read a poem and thought... huh?
This two-hour free workshop for rangatahi is for anyone who’s ever felt a little lost reading poetry but secretly wanted to understand it.
Run by the Oh No! Poetry Collective, this playful and welcoming session breaks poetry down into something you can feel, hear, and actually get.
We’ll peek behind the curtain of poetic minds, uncover what makes a poem tick, and try writing our own. Whether you’re a total newbie or a quiet poetry lover, come get inspired and demystify the art of the poem.
This workshop is suitable for rangatahi aged 13-18 years. Tickets are free, but spaces are limited, so book today to secure your spot.
About the facilitators:
Oh No! Poetry Collective is Tāmaki Makaurau’s cutest new poetry crew; wonderfully inclusive, process-focused, and all about building confidence and connection through words.
Since 2023, they’ve been lighting up the city with chalk poems, open mics, visual poetry, and creative writing workshops that celebrate love, protest, grief, and joy in all their raw and radiant forms.
Transport, parking and accessibility:
The closest paid public parking space is Auckland Transport's Victoria Street East car park (5-minute walk). If you are taking public transport, the venue is a 15-minute walk from Britomart Transport Centre and the Ferry Building. See AT's Journey Planner for route details.
Ellen Melville Centre is wheelchair accessible.
This event is presented by Auckland Council Libraries as part of We Read Auckland / Ka Pānui Tātou i Tāmaki Makaurau.
