About this Event

The King's Festival of Artificial Intelligence is hosting a Family Zone on Saturday 25 May! Join us at King's College London for a free, family-friendly exploration of AI, with activities suitable for children aged 4 and over.

Activities will include:

AI and Natural Intelligence

Run by Little House of Science, children will learn how science and specifically AI can be inspired by nature! The crossover of natural intelligence with artificial intelligence can help us solve scientific and engineering challenges. This activity is suitable for children aged 4 to 12.

Maths on the Move

Did you know that we can now use artificial intelligence to drive cars? But how do we make sure it drives them safely? In Maths on the Move an expert in mathematics will support you to learn how we can use maths to make sure that driverless cars are safe on our roads. This activity is suitable for children aged 4+.

Build a Robot Workshop

Join workshop artist and designer Katie Kennedy to design and build a sensational recycled robot model in this creative family friendly drop-in workshop. Be inspired by the King's Festival of Artificial Intelligence and get creative with recycled materials and reclaimed scrap objects to build your model, all you need to bring is your imagination. Everyone is welcome but please note this activity is most suitable for ages 4+.

Can you hide from AI?

AI facial recognition systems are used in many places, from unlocking your mobile phone to automated video surveillance. But these systems are not completely foolproof! Try your hand at designing a pattern or design to trick an AI face-detection system, and see if you can work out how to hide from AI.

RoboRacer

Can you beat a car driven by AI in a race? Find out here, as RoboRacer gives you the chance to race against a driverless car.

AI Games

Did you know that artificial intelligence can now create games for us? How do you think they’ll compare to games created by humans? Come along and play both board games and video games created by AI. This game is suitable for children aged 8+.

Robotic arm workshop

Do you know how to build a robot? In this workshop, you’ll work in teams, guided by King's Robotics students, to build a robotic arm. This workshop is suitable for children aged 10 and over. Please note, this workshop has a capacity restriction, and registrations will be taken on the day on a first come, first served basis, therefore we cannot guarantee that every activity will be available to all who want to participate. There will, however, be lots of drop-in activities running throughout the day. Registering for the family zone here will help us plan workshops to accommodate as many visitors as possible.

How to train your AI

AI image recognition systems are able to do amazing things, like detecting human faces and even helping spot diseases like cancer. But how do these systems actually work? Throughout the day, we will explore this together by building and training a simple AI programme to detect drawings of dogs, birds and fish. Make a drawing, scan it into the database, and see if we can get enough data to make a reliable AI image recognition system!

Tours

Led by King's Computer Science, AI and Engineering ambassadors, get a look behind the scenes at some of the facilities available to students at King's College London.

This event is in-person only. Please register on Eventbrite. Please select tickets for one entry slot only, this helps us to manage the flow of attendees to the event but does not limit your time spent there.
