Te Whānau Āio are incredibly excited to announce that Kia Maumahara - A Moment In Time will be performing again at the Auckland Museum this month. After an overwhelming outpour of responses from our audiences requesting for the next season, we have decided it will be on for three nightly shows, on July 25th - 27th.
This season round invites some new faces, new roles and new stories as many more untold stories of our ancestors have flourished to the surface desiring to be shared.
Kia Maumahara touches on true historical events for Māori throughout generations within Aotearoa. The piece raises questions regarding our tipuna/ancestors and their tāonga left behind and overseas.
If tāonga are unguarded, uncared for or left overseas, do our ancestors ever go home, or do they remain in a time warp of that event, that then trickles down into their bloodlines, until...they are finally put to rest.
From war stories to love stories, assimilation schools to family feuds, to corporate hui to culture before colonisation, audiences should expect to experience an emotional roller coaster of truth within all our bloodlines.
As part of our activation piece, we encourage ALL AUDIENCE PARTICIPANTS to make the effort to arrive in your ancestral attire from between 14th century to 1950s. As you make the effort to adorn yourself you are actively allowing your ancestors permission to not only heal and let go but for all our people, an opportunity to feel a sense of peace knowing we ALL, are taking part in remembering ourselves and those before by giving that memory honour and dignity by being acknowledged. The moment you are ready to go and are on your way, you have officially become a part of the kaupapa of Kia Maumahara.
Please arrive 15 minutes prior to 6:45pm to be properly intiated. Doors close at 7pm. Do not arrive under the influence, remember you are on kaupapa.
Our opening night will have catering and we will look forward to sharing more stories of love, laughter, grief and joy as our ancestors thrive in seeing the fruits of their future inside of this navigation.
