Musical Style: Klezmer infused JazzKerosene Ensemble is a Denver jazz quartet with roots going back to 2001, a group whose sound lives somewhere between structure and open space, tight when the moment calls for it and wide open when it doesn't. Their music is distinctly Denver: spatial, a little experimental, and built on collective listening that makes the quiet moments land as hard as the loud ones.
On June 10, Kerosene Ensemble takes the stage at Dazzle for an evening dedicated to the music of John Zorn's Masada. The Masada songbook is restless, rooted in Jewish folk tradition, and always leaning toward freedom. It sits comfortably in the hands of a band that doesn't rush toward resolution. Nothing gets over-explained. The music moves at its own pace and lands where it lands.
