ABOUT TETSURO SHIMAGUCHI
Samurai Artist KAMUI Tetsuro Shimaguchi, has been passionately pursuing a style of beauty in forms, acting, and martial arts combined together.
After graduating from Nihon University College of Arts, he started his career in theatrical activities such as kabuki, then formed a samurai sword performance group ,”Kengishu KAMUI”.
Since his success in acting as “MIKI” of the Crazy 88’s as well as directing the choreography in “K*ll BILL” – Quentin Tarantino film, his performances has been highly acclaimed around the world.
In 2012, he established his original SAMURAI dojo, “KENGIDO” through which he has been promoting Samurai culture actively both inside and outside of Japan whole-heartedly. With schools all around the world, KENGIDO is a Samurai method that anyone of any age can learn to enjoy.
His most recent work, The Last Samurai Standing, has recently premiered on Netflix, where he played a key role in supervising the sword performances and choreographing major fight scenes.
ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP
If you are interested in Japanese culture, Samurai culture, Katana swords, want to improve your sword fighting performance skills and become a Samurai for a day, please join us in this unique opportunity! This is a beginner friendly workshop, however, being fit and having some experience with sports, dance or martial arts is recommended.
At KENGIDO (pronounced KEN-gee-do), we teach Samurai movements and communication with others through learning combined movements of sword techniques of martial arts and performance with the beauty of forms. It creates a unique and innovative discipline while learning from traditions.
WHAT TO EXPECT
We will start with a light warm up and fundamentals. From there, we will work our way up to doing a short piece of choreography. You will have the opportunity to film this section to post on social media if you'd like. Sensei Tetsuro Shimaguchi will be acompanied by an assistant from Japan and some of his best students from the London school to assist you throughout the session.

PLEASE BE READY BY 19:40 AT THE LATEST AND HAVE YOUR TICKET READY ON YOUR PHONE BEFORE YOU ARRIVE. WE WILL SCAN IT BEFORE YOU ENTER THE ROOM.
CHANGING ROOMS WILL BE AVAILABLE. WE WILL BE TRAINING BAREFOOT OR WITH SOCKS. NO SHOES WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE SPACE.
NO ENTRY WILL BE PERMITTED AFTER THE WORKSHOP BEGINS. FILMING OR PHOTOGRAPHY WILL BE TAKING PLACE AT THIS EVENT. PLEASE NOTIFY US IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO BE PHOTOGRAPHED.
YOU MUST BE 18+ YEARS OLD TO TAKE PART IN THIS EVENT.
ATTENTION
Real swords will NOT be used in this workshop, you will be using wooden bokken provided by us, so it's completely safe for everyone.
