9 weeks of community singing for connection & collective resilience.
No auditions, no experience needed, all voices welcome!
About this Event

When we sing, we remember:
We are not alone.
We are in this together.

Keep Going Choir is a space to cultivate the collective resilience we need in these times by singing together in community. Community singing invites us to remember that our voices are a powerful tool for connection, truth telling, healing, and liberation. Together we sing easy-to-learn songs that celebrate the beauty of life, tend to collective grief, remind us of our interconnectedness, and fuel us with the courage to keep going in a good way. No prior experience with singing is needed; all voices are welcome! No matter what comes our way, we gotta keep going and keep singing.

Our 9 week spring season from April 15-June 17 (no meeting on May 20) weaves singing and community building for an unforgettable and deeply connective experience.

What is community singing?

Gathering to sing with other humans is something people across cultures have been doing for thousands upon thousands of years. Today, the practice of community singing often means gathering to sing for the pleasure of singing itself, with an emphasis on connection over perfection. This is a non-performing, non-religious group that welcomes all voices, even folks who think they "can't sing." This isn't about having a "good" voice, it's about reclaiming the power of our voices in community. We learn songs through oral tradition ("call and echo" or "repeat after me"), so you don't need to read music or have any previous experience to participate, and the songs are simple enough that anyone can catch on. Whether you're a shower singer or a choir enthusiast, your voice is welcome and wanted here!

What will we sing?

The majority of the songs we'll sing come from the modern community singing movement. These songs tend to consist of short, repeating parts with meaningful lyrics, often with layers that overlap, weaving rhythm and harmony into beautiful musical tapestries. We honor and uplift the people, places, and stories where the songs originate, resisting appropriation by only sharing songs we have permission to sing. From simple and soothing melodies to vibrant layer songs with juicy harmonies, the songs we sing include themes of courage, community, grief, resilience, resistance, interconnection, healing, and active hope.

Energetic Exchange

The full series is offered on a sliding scale of $100-300+. Drop in sessions are sliding scale, $15-30. You can add your donation at check out, or contribute when you arrive. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.

A portion of proceeds from this season will be donated to yəhaw̓ Indigenous Creatives Collective, a community of intertribal Indigenous artists rematriating 1.5 acres of land in South Seattle, on Coast Salish territories.

Testimonials

Keep Going Choir is a balm for the soul. On joyful days, weary days, grief-filled days... we sing. Every time I attend, I feel my spirit lifted and nourished by like-hearted community. I appreciate the way Bex invites each voice and person to fully arrive, and that connection is emphasized over sounding good. They create a warm and open container for a night of empowering and inspiring vocal delight!! Can't recommend highly enough. Grab a pal and come join us in song! —Syd

Bex curates an experience of joy and connection that is much needed in these times. Whether you're the lead soprano or someone who can only carry a tune so far (that's me), you can feel at home in the Keep Going Choir. They do a great job of thawing the "Seattle freeze" and helping people feel part of a movement. The songs lift you up and the messages resonate with the harmonies, building community, resilience, and power. Jen
