Rock trailblazer Kathleen Hanna, front-woman of the bands Bikini K*ll and Le Tigre, takes the stage alongside prolific Oakland-based literary bad-boy and performer Brontez Purnell for an electric night of conversation about their unapologetic new memoirs, their influential stripes of rebellious artistry, and the essence of punk. This event is co-presented by City Arts & Lectures.

About the Speakers
Kathleen Hanna is a punk singer, artist, and the front-woman of the influential bands Bikini K*ll and Le Tigre. Hanna is a staple in feminist publications, from college curriculums to bestselling books, and a leading voice in the punk feminist movement. She has been named one of the best live performers of our time, earning acclaim from Rolling Stone, The New York Times, NPR, Interview Magazine, V Magazine, Vogue, Entertainment Weekly, BUST Magazine, NYLON and Los Angeles Times, to name a few. In her new memoir, Rebel Girl: My Life as a Feminist Punk, Hanna reveals the hardest times along the most joyful–and how they fuel her revolutionary art and music.
Brontez Purnell is an Oakland-based writer, performance artist, filmmaker, and choreographer. He is the author of 8 books, including Since I Laid My Burden Down, The Cruising Diaries, and 100 Boyfriends, which won the 2022 Lambda Literary Award in Gay Fiction. Purnell has also been making music since the ‘90s, and has toured with his band Gravy Train!!!! and as frontman for The Younger Lovers. His forthcoming book, Ten Bridges I’ve Burnt, is a wrenching, sexy, exhilaratingly energetic memoir in verse. Out in February 2024.
