Experience the healing power of music and community as blues-rock powerhouse Julia Francis returns to the Royal Room with a triumphant show over two years in the making, joined by some of Seattle’s finest musicians. Opening the night, Seola Station weaves bold, shimmering folk-rock grooves with captivating storytelling. Together, they deliver a spirited evening of rock and roll to raise your frequency and soothe your soul.
JULIA FRANCIS is a Seattle-based singer-songwriter offering soul-level catharsis. Her music is deeply rooted in the blues, and onstage she delivers an electrifying, ecstatic rock performance, supported by Seattle favorites Darren Loucas on guitar, Aaron O'Neil on drums and Rebecca Young on bass.
“When I hear Julia Francis sing I can’t help but think of the murky, howling, blistering place of the great old jump singers, like Big Mama Thornton, Bessie Smith, and Sister Rosetta Tharpe, colliding with rock and rollers like Grace Slick, Janis Joplin, and Susan Tedeschi. There’s a mind-clearing blow to Julia’s voice that does just what music should: it takes you out of yourself.” –Iaan Hughes, Music Director KBCS

SEOLA STATION is poetry set against a mesmerizing folk rock groove. Their sound suggests a range of influences including The Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section, Fiona Apple, and The Tragically Hip, with vocals that invite comparisons to PJ Harvey and Patti Smith.
A dual-guitar groove drives Seola Station’s dynamic blend of contrasting elements that might take listeners back to the musically diverse Paisley Underground era of the early 1980s Los Angeles, when being influenced equally by both Lou Reed and Love seemed like a no-brainer, and to the emergence of the Pretenders, whose mix of brawn and tenderness was honest and human. With Ruth Haney (vocals), Brian Sykes (bass), Matt Wetherholt (electric guitar), and Brett "Pauly" Woodbury (electric guitar).
