They formed out of the vibrant Birmingham music scene in 2019 while studying at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. Festival appearances include Towersey Festival, Moseley Folk Festival, Warwick Folk Festival Power Folk 9, Gate to Southwell, Beardy Folk Festival and their most recent album “Live Shenanigans” was nominated by Bright Young Folk in their Reader’s Choice Poll for Album of the Year 2022.NOMAD: NOMAD is an award-winning flexible ensemble founded in 2021 by classically trained musicians Ailsa Burns, Iona Kaye, and Elena Orsi. They create multidisciplinary performances that blend music with a vibrant array of art forms. Recent collaborations include projects with composer Ben Nobuto and Senegalese percussionist Dudù Kouate, with whom they've recorded their first collaborative album, due to be released later this year. From concert halls to community pubs, their performance highlights include Manchester International Festival and the Bridgewater Hall Live at Lunchtime series - and even a tiny woodworking workshop in Nottingham! For this event they take shape as a string quartet, double bass and voice, bringing a set of original songs, traditional music and classical works, all coloured by jazz and folk influences.
