Johnny Vernazza

Johnny “V” Vernazza began his musical journey in 1963 as a guitarist, later adding bass to his skills, and quickly gained recognition touring with bands that opened for legends like Quicksilver Messenger Service, War, and Big Brother and the Holding Company. By 1970, he joined the gospel group Gideon and Power, touring nationally and appearing on NBC’s Sonny & Cher Summer Show, while also building a strong presence in the blues scene alongside artists like Luther Tucker and Sunnyland Slim in San Francisco’s North Beach. His most defining work came through his collaboration with Elvin Bishop, where their dual lead and slide guitar style helped shape the Southern Rock sound, highlighted by the hit “Fooled Around and Fell in Love,” cementing his lasting influence on rock and blues.
