Kathleen is a dynamic and accomplished Pianist, Composer, Vocalist, and Arranger, who has performed as a soloist and band leader on the Toronto scene for nearly two decades. She has performed and recorded with some of Canada's finest Jazz players. Described once by Jazz legend Sheila Jordan as " a wonderful talent ", Kathleen is known for her innovative and compelling jazz arrangements of classic songs, and original instrumental compositions. She released two critically acclaimed studio albums which received international and local airplay on Jazz FM 91.1 and CBC radio. With influences ranging from Keith Jarrett, Joe Sample, Michel LeGrand to Shirley Horn, and Joni Mitchell, her music is expressive and lyrical. She presents jazz standards, blues and ballads with her own signature sound. Her background as a classically trained pianist and composer is heard in her world class style. Whether performing in top Toronto venues like the Jazz Bistro or the Old Mill, at the Kensington Market Jazz Fest, or intimate house concerts, her unique, sophisticated artistry is evident to the audience. She is delighted to pay tribute to one of her idols, the masterful Shirley Horn, with some of Toronto's top musicians joining her.
"In all songs, Gorman reveals a singular virtuosity that eschews showmanship and accentuates a phrasing style pregnant with emotion." - Raul da Gama, Whole Note Magazine
"A brilliant composer and lyricist, the talented Kathleen Gorman invites us on a journey of the heart, exposing universal intimacies which resonate from the opening note. Soulful, poignant, uplifting....One of the best new original albums of the year. " - Calgary Herald, album review
