About this Event

Don Slovin's JAMPROV – NYC Edition
A Show You Really Get Into!
JUST WANT TO WATCH THE SHOW?

No! I want to perform!
Great... read on...

What is Jamprov?
It’s easier to explain what it isn’t:

  • It has music — but it’s not a musical.
  • It uses improv techniques — but it’s not an improv show.
  • It uses music and movement — but it’s not a dance performance.
  • It taps into metaphysical wonder — but it’s not a reading or a healing.
  • It's an immersive theater piece--but it's not a play
  • it is filmed and photographed--but it's not a movie
  • It’s not the same any night — because you make it new.

Jamprov is 50 years old and yet adapted for today. It changes with each show based on the unique chemistry of the cast, the audience, and the night itself.

FOR PERFORMERS
An opportunity to be in a theater show, after attending a workshop! We will create our ensemble.

  • Performer Ticket: $35
Includes 2-hour workshop + stage time in that evening’s Jamprov show.

WHO'S BEHIND JAMPROV

Don Slovin has been a passionate performer, educator, and improviser since the 1970s, blending music, theater, commitment, and spontaneity across decades and continents. He is the founder of Jamprov and a founding participant in Second Sight Theater Lab, directed by Christopher Applegate III. Unbeknownst to Don at the time, he was pioneering improvisational theater in Philadelphia just as similar movements were emerging in Chicago, Canada, and San Francisco.

With a B.A. in Liberal Arts from Roger Williams College, his career has included experimental theater and teaching in Berkeley, California; children’s entertainment and education (from music appreciation to birthday parties); and co-creating the cable-access TV show Land of Wonder with Cynthia Olivera in Wilmington, Delaware. He was likely one of the first male daycare teachers in the state and co-founded a traveling troupe that brought music and movement to early childhood centers.

In Israel, Don continued his creative work through Improvocatzia, teaching, performing children's programming such as Baby Loves Music, and working as a clown. Wherever he lived, Don played in bands—including Polar Bear, Saboteur Tiger, Heat, Apes of Wrath, and Magic Whoopee Band. He performed alongside artists like Shlomo Carlebach and Dan Madden, and often serves as a percussionist for improv groups—exploring genres from jazz-rock fusion to country-western, and virtual troupes such as "Timeless Double Nickel Saloon Improv" and "Bit Comedy Network". He also composed for films such as Night Letters, and wrote plays including Joel, A Man's Search for Meaning, and The Magics Inside.

Don spent over 30 years as a tour guide, delivering two four-hour one-man shows daily, year-round.

His life in the arts is a testament to play, passion, and the power of improvisation—and an open invitation to join in.

I thank all my teachers, students, multitude of scene partners, and those of like mind and spirit.

Elle Jone is an actress with training in Acting for Film and Television at the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles. The Bachelor of Fine Arts had a major focus on film and television, but also a strong theatrical component. She started in Lisbon in 2010 with some workshops and stage experiences. Years later in Portland, Oregon where she graduated from high school, she took her first "steps" on foreign stages. After this year, Elle moved to Los Angeles to pursue a degree in Acting. The films Silent Heist, and The Way Back are among the most noteworthy. As well as - her own short film- that she produced, acted, wrote, and edited. In the theater, she starred in Jesus Hopped The A Train, Don't Teller, Hope, and Hello From Bertha by Tenessee Williams.
In 2021 back in Lisbon, she trains with the Improv group Os Improváveis from Lisbon for 2 years. Improvisation became a vocation after experiencing the magic of performing Long Form to an audience. In the summer 2023 Elle participated and performed at Irrevente: Lisbon's International Improv Festival.

In 2023, she launched a documentary series on Youtube called Les Corujas with improvised conversations about ideas and concepts concerning the Human Evolution. In addition to conducting the conversations, filming, and recording the sound, she is also the editor. Also in 2023, Elle joined the first certified group of Green Consultants in Portugal- a group of Film Producers aiming to create more sustainable productions.

In 2025 in New York, Elle will star in a one-woman theater play written and directed by Tineke Van de Sompel, titled —a philosophical exploration of time, memory, intimacy, and the absurd—premiering July 11 at New Stage on the Upper West Side.
