JACK WILKINS SEXTET Plays BLUE NOTE CLASSICSTampa Jazz Club at HCC/Ybor -- Sunday, Oct 13
Tickets at: https://tampajazzclub.com/
It’s a celebration of the classic Blue Note Records sound, defining jazz of the Fifties and Sixties, when saxophonist JACK WILKINS returns to HCC/Ybor City’s Mainstage Theatre on Sunday, October 13, at 3pm presented by the Tampa Jazz Club. The concert is also a salute to the legendary recording engineer behind all of that music, Rudy Van Gelder, born 100 years ago this fall.
Just retired as USF’s Director of Jazz Studies, Jack Wilkins will reunite with longtime colleagues, including James Suggs, LaRue Nickelson, Per Danielsson, Mark Neuenschwander, and David Hardman for this afternoon of hard bop and soul-jazz favorites. Expect to hear familiar tunes by Cannonball Adderley, John Coltrane, Horace Silver, Herbie Hancock and more.
These Sunday concerts are part of the HCC Visual & Performing Arts Series. And this one will be like hanging out at Van Gelder’s, where the best jazz of the era was always being made!
