About this Event

Weaving Stories of Strength Workshop 1: Story Circle & Fabric Offering
Guided by the QVMAG Team with musician Suzanne Turner.

Every garment holds a memory. Every voice matters.

Begin the journey by bringing a garment - symbolic or everyday - and sharing its story in a safe, facilitated circle. This opening workshop invites participants to reflect on personal experiences and contribute fabric that will become part of a collective wearable sculpture. Through conversation and connection, we weave the first threads of resilience and solidarity.

What to Expect

  • Gather in a circle and share a story connected to your garment if you wish. Sharing can be as simple as one word.
  • Cut garments and textiles into squares and distribute material for painting, embroidery, or felting.
  • Optional audio recording of words or sounds that emerge during the session, contributing to the collective soundscape.
  • Start creating your story piece during the session. You may take it home to continue working on the piece. Then, bring it back to later workshops to add to your work, or bring it to workshops six or seven for assembly.

Details:

  • This workshop will be held in the Learning Centre at the Museum at Inveresk, 2 Invermay Road, Launceston.
  • The workshop series is free to register - please note bookings are essential.
  • This workshop is open to women and gender-diverse individuals of all ages.
  • Be sure to join us for the final unveiling of the sculpture on Friday 6 March at our free morning tea celebration. Register here.

IWD 2026: Weaving Stories of Strength

Threads of resilience, sharing voices of transformation.

QVMAG and the City of Launceston, in collaboration with Interweave Arts, invite you to Weaving Stories of Strength - an arts workshop series in celebration of International Women’s Day 2026.

The free arts workshop series brings the 2026 IWD themes to life through seven creative workshops, culminating in a symbolic wearable sculpture to be revealed at a special morning tea event.

Through art therapy, textile design, movement, and sound, the project invites women and gender-diverse individuals to reclaim narratives, explore embodiment, and create a powerful symbol of collective strength.
