About this Event
Join us on Wednesday 13th May for a special edition of the Italian Language Bar, organised by Casa Italiana.
We have two special surprises for our attendees; some news about the impact our Language Bar is having, as well as a short talk from the bar's creator Sophia Smith Galer on her latest book.
Sophia will be giving a short talk in Italian about her new book How To K*ll A Language, and what Italy's extraordinary regional language diversity tells us about the fight to keep languages alive and language endangerment around the world. Expect to leave knowing things about Italian you never knew you didn't know.
You can pre-order How To K*ll A Language here if you wish to read it in advance to support Sophia - or you can buy a copy on the night.
The Language Bar is a chance to practice Italian in a safe space where mistakes are encouraged, new and experienced speakers are welcome, and Italian wine is drunk!
The evening runs 7-9:30pm (PLEASE ARRIVE BY 7:30 FOR HER TALK) and you'll need to purchase a ticket to enter - with which you'll get a free glass of wine, beer or soft drink. Please note these tickets are non-refundable.
All proceeds go towards Casa Italiana, which is run by volunteers who are fighting to keep this vibrant hub and community centre of the Italian diaspora in London alive.
To get the most out of the evening, we recommend you have at least a beginners' level of Italian as this is designed to be conversation practice, not a language lesson. Speakers of all levels come, including many native Italian speakers!
If you have any questions, please email us at [email protected].
Ci vediamo lì!
