About this Event
What’s This Session About?
Every business has Intellectual Property (IP) and understanding what it is for you and how to protect it is important. For many businesses the name, logo and other branding is a key element of their IP.
In this session, we will give you what you need to know about trade marks - how to protect them, the differences between trade marks and company names at Companies House, and domain names. We will also explain what steps you can take not to infringe on the trade mark rights of others.
Along with trade marks, we will explain the other IP rights of copyright, patents and designs.
What You’ll Take Away:
Trade Marks: You will understand how to safeguard your brand and avoid problems
IP Register: You will be able to document what IP is in the business to show investors you have robust processes in place to protect your valuable information and USPs.
IP Strategy: You will have awareness of IP rights and will be ready to protect them and avoid taking actions that will jeopardise that protection

About Ben Lincoln
I am a patent attorney and Intellectual Property advisor. I have a background in physics and computer science and have over 22 years of experience working with businesses on a wide range of subject matter. I help businesses recognise what information and innovations have value, so that safeguards can be put in place to keep options open and inform decisions early on. I also collaborate with you to develop Intellectual Property strategies that help you understand which innovations should be protected, how they should be protected and when. Fundamentally, an IP strategy helps you understand how your IP is working for you and how it supports you achieving your business goals (and generate income!)
I therefore want to make sure you have a clear picture of your IP so that when you start filing for patent/design/trade mark registrations, putting trade secret measures in place, or agreeing on contracts, you know why you are doing it. If it hasn’t come across already, I really enjoy helping people with their IP issues!
