Join Penn State Master Gardeners Jill Baer and Gracie Percevault on Wednesday, April 1 at 6 PM as they present Introducing the Community Seed Library at the Marian Sutherland Kirby Library.Penn State Master Gardeners created seed libraries for public use in collaboration with Luzerne County libraries. The Marian Sutherland Kirby Library is one of several Luzerne County libraries to offer a seed library to the public. The seed library and educational materials will be available to library visitors after the program on April 1 and will be stocked and maintained by the Master Gardeners throughout the summer.
Seed libraries make gardening accessible to everyone. Visitors can “check out” seeds, grow them at home, and enjoy the benefits of fresh food, beautiful flowers, and hands on learning. Gardening is a wonderful activity for all ages — perfect for families looking to spend more time outdoors together.
The seeds for the library have been selected for new and experienced gardeners. They are versatile, disease-resistant, and productive varieties that are well suited for direct seeding and growing in containers or in the ground in Luzerne County.
The program will include a PowerPoint presentation and a Garden Q & A where Master Gardeners will be answer plant questions and connect gardeners to research based information resources.
Another topic to be discussed will be an Introduction to the Master Gardener Program where attendees will learn about the Basic Training program and how to become a Master Gardener volunteer in Luzerne County.
Registration is requested by calling the library at 570-474-931 or by visiting the library at 35 Kirby Ave., Mountaintop. Contact the library for more information.
